Series Synopsis
Five years
ago, the Arcadia Empire was overthrown. Now seen as a remnant of the past
regime, former prince Lux Arcadia (voiced by Mutsumi Tamura) does what he can
to get by.
Though not
an intimidating presence, Lux has been building quite the reputation as a
Drag-Knight warrior. To this day, he has never lost a battle. This has earned
him the title, The Weakest Undefeated Drag-Knight. Despite this, Lux isn’t
concerned about glory.
His skill
allowed him to enter the New Kingdom's most prestigious Drag-Knight academy.
The problem, he is the only male student. Things get awkward from pretty much
the moment he arrives.
Yet Lux's
kindness and selflessness earn him the respect of his peers. He also gains the
affection of some of the academy’s most accomplished students. First is the
crown princess of the New Kingdom, Lisesharte Atismata (voiced by Lynn). Second
is the daughter of the high-ranking Einfolk family, Kruicifer Einfolk (voiced by
Yukiyo Fujii). Third is the daughter of one of the four great noble lines and
the school’s strongest warrior, Celistia Ralgris (voiced by Risa Taneda).
Finally, there’s Lux’s own childhood friend, Philuffy Aingram (voiced by YurikaKubo).
The
bitterness of the revolution is still in the air and there are those seeking to
restore the former order. Though he’s the prince of the old country, Lux hopes
to lead everyone to a lasting peace. With that, he is determined to stand
against those hoping to destroy everything.

Series Positives
There were
things about this series I found fun. There were aspects of this series I
enjoyed. There was entertainment. Was there enough to warrant a recommendation?
Nope.
Yes, there
were parts I liked, but they don't mean anything. Undefeated Bahamut Chronicles was a giant waste of time.
Lisesharte |
The show was
at its best whenever it went into harem mode. Though not as strong as others in
the genre, this series is without a doubt a harem. Had Bahamut Chronicles focused on that, then something might have been
worth talking about. Maybe that’s too much wishful thinking. I’m giving the
show too much credit.
Kruicifer |
The harem
was fun, but it was few and far between. Also, when these moments did occur,
they were generic. They’ve been done before and they’re not at all special
here. It was cute for what it was.
Though I
thought it was dull, I don’t hate this series. It’s harmless, but it did waste
a good thing.
Lux
Lux was a
great character.
Celistia |
He is,
without a doubt, the best thing about this show. Where did he come from? Why is
he here? He’s more than this series deserves. Way more than it deserves. Lux’s
presence on screen does a lot of the work. He made it so that this series
wasn’t boring…okay not a hundred percent boring.
Philuffy |
Based only
on appearance and design, Lux is the spitting image of the wimp. Plus, he fell
into a common trap. Within the first minute of the show, he found himself in
the middle of a crowded female bathhouse. It wasn't a great start and I didn't
have high hopes for him.
Yet it was
during this scene where he showed what kind of character he was going to be.
All the stereotypes happened within the span of thirty seconds. Lux landed on
top of the main heroine, Lisesharte. She was full on naked, there were a ton of
witness, and it looked bad. And although she was in a difficult position,
Lisesharte still had the upper hand. She was going to make Lux pay.
The wimp
would’ve let it happen. This character type would’ve turned into a stammering
idiot. They’d be unable to form comprehensible speech. Odds are, they’d add a
lot of unforced errors, making everything worse. From this moment on, the wimp
wouldn’t be able to escape the pervert label.
All the
harem elements, the one other decent thing about this series, would have
suffered due to this. The harem would’ve centered on a person only because they
were the lead. They wouldn’t have any qualities that would’ve otherwise
justified their following. And it would’ve been dull because this is where this
scene always leads.
That’s why
it was impressive when Lux went a different route. Instead of making excuses,
he turned the situation around. It caught me off guard. It caught Lisesharte
completely off guard. I didn’t expect him to say what he said.
Now, of
course, falling into the girl's bathhouse isn't something that gets swept away.
He did get seen as a potential pervert afterward. Yet over the course of the
series, he was able to drop this perception. Through his confidence and through
loyalty, Lux earned the respect of his peers.
Whenever Lux
got a new admirer, it was due to his actions. It wasn't because of default. I'll
admit, though, Lisesharte and Celistia's feelings weren't that well founded. Or
at least it seemed like the story did a piss poor job of establishing their
connection. That becomes truer when compared to Kruicifer and Philuffy. For
those two, Lux was a legitimate badass. He did and said things which made
falling for him believable.
One last
good thing about Lux, his presence improved the other characters around him.
There was no other person in this series to give a s@#$ about. Everyone was lame
and forgettable. Yet when Lux was around he made scenes more interesting. He
made conversations more fun. He also made fights a hell of a lot more
entertaining; this isn't that strong of an action show.
Unfortunately
for Lux, he's going to go down with the ship. Undefeated Bahamut Chronicles doesn’t leave an impact. Yes, Lux is
a good character, but he couldn’t save this show.
Series Negatives
The harem
elements were fun, but they were secondary. When this series wanted to do
actual plot, that’s when everything started to fall apart. This is an example
of a short story being a long sit.
There was a
political web to this world that was already bogged down in mysticism. It was a
recipe for disaster. I had no clue what was happening in this show at any
point.
There was a
revolution before the events the series. There was a mysterious black knight
who showed up and wrecked house. The academy Lux attended was full of
high-ranking students from other countries. This was all important because the
show said so.
There was
this group of top nobles controlling things behind the scenes. Except these
noble families seemed old, so I don't know why they had any power in the new
regime. Speaking of the new regime, Lisesharte was the Queen even though
there was a current Queen.
All the
fighting robots were byproducts of ancient relics. What those relics were and
how or why they worked I haven’t a clue. Also, the implication was that only
women were able to pilot the machines. Too bad that just wasn’t true. In fact,
there wasn’t any kind of sign that a person needed special abilities to fly one
of these things. There were people who didn’t, but why they didn’t…I don’t
know.
There were
big destructive monsters that showed up because of reasons. Oh, and these
monsters were legendary so you best know who they were. Except they were never
explained. There were also antagonists that kept appearing, like even into the
final episodes. And they were evil because, you know, they were evil.
What in the
actual f@#$ did I watch?
On top of a
plot that was all over the place, there was the pacing. Oh, my God the pacing.
It wasn’t bad. No, no, no, it was…garbage.
This show
needed to slow the f@#$ down. Things just kept happening. Nothing took its
time. For example, Lisesharte and Lux knew each other for about a day. They had
one fight, which I guess Lux was impressive in. He didn’t do a whole lot and
Lisesharte was never in a position when she needed his help. I suppose he
proved he could hold his own in a fight. Whatever it was, it was enough for Liseharte to fall in love with him. What was this episode two? And the next time they had
a romantic moment together was…episode ten, oh okay.
Kruicifer
and Philuffy had a much better establishment. Not great, but better. Yet
because Lisesharte was the first she was automatically the main love interest.
Why?
The pacing may have been fast, but there was still so much going on that it made
this show drag. This is a series you have to power through to finish. It wasn’t
fun, it wasn’t interesting, and, again, it was just boring.
Final Thoughts
I don’t hate
this show because I know I’m going to forget it.
As I said in
the beginning, there were things I found fun and enjoyed. The series had a good
lead character. The harem surrounding him and the kind of stuff that went with
that were entertaining. Too bad these were only a small part of an otherwise
lackluster product.
The story
made no sense. Things happened all the time and only on occasion were they
explained. When they got explained it was too fast. And even when they weren't explained, it was still too fast. There's lore to this world you need to know
going in. Yet if this show proved anything, it’s not worth your time.
Undefeated Bahamut Chronicles’ biggest
sin was wasting good ideas. As a result, it will become another one of those
series that will maybe be remembered as a thing that happened.
