A Message from LofZOdyssey

Dear Everyone,

Thank you. Thank you all so very much. There are not enough years in a lifetime to express my full gratitude. Nevertheless, I will try doing that in a simple post.

When I think of how to organize my thoughts, I am at a loss for words. That is interesting since I haven't been having issues with wordiness for a while. I don't suspect that is going to change. If anything, my reviews will only become longer. And, I hope, better.

Looking back at my first post, Seitokai Yakunidomo, it is a little embarrassing to think I once thought such a thing was acceptable. That review has an atrocious amount of incomplete thoughts. The details I gave are bare bone at best. And I spent way too much time introducing the series instead of actually discussing it. The entire review could fit into a single subsection of what I write today.

Anime Hajime Impressions: Mars of Destruction

***Warning, the following may contain spoilers for Mars of Destruction. Reader discretion is advised.***

The Set Up

Over the course of these past three years, I’ve seen a lot of anime. There have been plenty of shows that were good. There have been plenty that were bad. Fortunately, there have been a handful of series that were outstanding. Unfortunately, there has been garbage too. We’re going to be focusing on the latter today.

I don’t put much stock in “number” ratings. To me, they don’t signify anything. What meaning can you get out of such a numerical value? To me, this is an over-simplistic boiling down of a show’s positives and negatives.

Then again, this is coming from someone who has no filter when it comes to anime. One of my goals of this site is to help people pick what sounds interesting to them. If you don’t have the time to “hope things will work out” when it comes to choosing a series, I get that. This is where I see a rating system being a nice guide.

Plus, I myself get curious. If for nothing else, I want to compare my own thoughts to what others are thinking. To do this, I end up on several different websites. Yet the two I tend to come across the most are IMDB and MyAnimeList.

Anime Ichiban: Top Ten Anime Couples

Criteria

Have you ever fantasized about being with that special someone? We all have to some degree. There are even those lucky few who have taken this one step further and managed to find that person. If you are one of those people, congratulations.

LofZOdyssey Anime Reviews would like to wish all loving couples a very Happy Valentine’s Day. And if it's not February 14th, here’s to many fulfilling years for you two.

For the rest of us though, we need to find our romance fix somewhere else.

By now it’s no secret. But if you are new here, you should know something about me. I don’t hide my enjoyment of the romance genre. With the variety of different series on this site, there’s nothing quite like a good love story. Seeing two people grow close is enduring. Watching characters try to make a relationship work can be heartwarming.

With every range of sappy emotions involved, it’s no wonder that love is so common in storytelling. It’s so common in fact, the romance genre can’t contain everything. Weather action, comedy, or even horror, couples tend to pop up everywhere.

Anime Hajime Review: Made in Abyss

***Warning, the following may contain spoilers for Made in Abyss. Reader discretion is advised.***

Series Synopsis

In this world, there is a mysterious place known as the abyss. What exists within its depths are secrets one can only imagine. The prospects of treasure have inspired many adventurers to explore what lies beneath its surface. But to enter, one must be willing to pay the price.

Each level a person goes down, the greater the strain the return trip will take. Dizziness turns to nausea. Nausea to hallucinations. Hallucinations to horrific pain. Then there comes a point where ascending means forgoing one’s humanity. And should fortune be on their side, death will soon follow.

Despite the dangers, the draw of the unknown is enticing. For young Riko (voiced by Miyu Tomita), the pull is unbearable.

As an apprentice cave raider, Riko has only ever ventured into the abyss’ first layer. Anything of note here was unearthed long ago. Thus, Riko is beside herself when she discovers the abyss’ most fascinating relic ever. She finds a mechanical boy, who she names Reg (voiced by Mariya Ise).
