***Warning, the following may contain spoilers for Ore no Imoto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai Seasons 1 and 2. Reader discretion is advised.***
Series Synopsis
Kyosuke Kosaka (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura), once again, is his sister's, Kirino (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu) life counselor.
And like it was before, the siblings have trouble seeing eye to eye. With their relationship now at a pivotal junction, even the slightest thing can set the two off.
Along with this, they must juggle the responsibilities of life and school. Kyosuke being the underwhelming underachiever and Kirino as the secret otaku.
Kyosuke and Kirino’s estranged relationship is put through its final trials. There are several occasions where everything teeters on the brink of utter destruction.
Series Positives
The first season, without a doubt, was better. Trust me, I’ll get into what’s wrong with this season in a bit. But they were definitely some good aspects about season two. |

Kyosuke and Kuroneko (Spoiler Alert)
While season one was the stronger, season two had the best moment of the entire series.

In the first season and during the ONAs, Kuroneko developed an interest in Kyosuke. But I never expected Kyosuke to return those feelings. So when she did actually confess, my heart hurt because I knew Kyosuke would reject her.
But then he didn’t. Kyosuke accepted and the following few episodes were the best of the series.
During their time together, their relationship grew. You could even say they did love each other.
That's why when they break up because of bull s#$@, a.k.a. Kirino, it was a little disheartening. They still had a connection. They would get back together the moment Kyosuke settled things with his sister.
This led to a well-done rejection scene between Kyosuke and Ayase (voiced by Saori Hayami). It was sad, but also responsible. It gave great closure to Ayase’s character arc and gave hope to a Kuroneko ending.
Unfortunately, Oreimo was all like f@#$ that and decided to undo everything. Series Negatives
All my hate and anger comes from season two’s ONAs. As a rule, I try not to allow extra episodes to sway my opinion. But ONAs, and in particular Oreimo’s ONAs, are often a special exception.
ONAs aren’t simple add-ons to the show. They're continuations of the series. Had season two not started where season one's ONA ended, I would disregard their existence. Except the show didn’t want to play that game. Therefore it reaps what it sowed.
Kirino Cont. (Spoiler Alert)
Despite the nature of this show. Despite the setup. Despite where from the very beginning you thought this series would go. It didn't do it. I praised season one for not taking the easy route.
Which was exactly what happened in season two. It took the easy route. Kyosuke and Kirino becoming a couple was the easy route. Other than the obvious reason why it's bad, a Kirino ending was the worst possible outcome.
Kirino was selfish. She was bratty. She was mean. She was ungrateful to her brother and her friends. She didn' think of anyone except herself. She was self-centered. She was a bad character. One hundred percent bad.
Kirino took zero responsibility for anything. But she asked for so much from every single person in this show. She gave nothing in return. Everyone wanted to please her. Everyone wanted her attention. And everyone wanted this for no reason. She didn't earn it. She didn't deserve it.
What this show did was destroy every other character. So that by default, Kirino was the only one left. It was sloppy. It didn’t work. And it went against everything that had been built from the beginning. This story was trying to force in this ending.
To do so, the story had to destroy a better, relationship between Kyosuke and Kuroneko. It had to destroy a great rejection moment with Ayase. It had to destroy multiple good characters.
I take back what I said from my review for season one. Kirino is a terrible character.
This show had the makings of something good. There were so many different scenarios and moments that don’t involve Kirino.
Final Thoughts
If you include the ONAs, which I am, this isn't a good series. Oreimo’s second season was terrible.
Watch the first season. End at the first season. You don’t have to watch any more. If you do continue, the show becomes broken but tolerable up until episode thirteen.
Season two had a lot good moments. It even had the best moment. But none of it was worth it. I have never gone from utter anticipation to utter regret so fast.
