Anime Hajime Review: Maken-ki Two

Series Synopsis

If you can believe it, we’ve returned to Tenbi Academy. Here battles and combat are expected.

Many students have the ability to control Elements. As well as wield weapons known as Maken. The destructive nature of this energy makes them dangerous in the wrong hands. That's why it is up to Tenbi’s elite Maken-ki to keep the peace.

The Maken-ki have a lot on their hands. The next crisis could come from anywhere. There's not any shortage of people who wish to abuse their power. Or raid the girl’s locker room. Whichever.

Amongst this exclusive group is Takeru Oyama (voiced by Tomoaki Maneno). Due to circumstances, he lives with three of his fellow, female, Maken-ki members. His childhood friend Haruko Amaya (voiced by Noriko Shitaya). His supposed fiancée, Inaho Kushiya (voiced by Iori Nomizu). And the short-tempered, Kodama Himegami (voiced by Sayuri Yahagi).

Though these four get the job done, it’s never easy. Not so much due to the danger involved. It has more to do with this group’s eccentric nature. This often means one, if not everyone, is going to get naked at some point.

What’s the worst that can happen? Again?

Series Synopsis

Tenbi Academy has converted from an all-girls school to co-ed. This could not make Takeru Ohyama (voiced by Tomoaki Maeno) any happier. Now he has the chance to meet...be around...see lots of pretty girls. Plus, Tenbi doesn’t require an entrance exam. So it’s a win-win. Or least it would be. A little research can go a long way.

Tenbi Academy focuses on student’s ability to use Elements and Maken. Magical items used for combat. That’s why fights are not only common, they're expected. A problem since Takeru doesn’t appear to wield a Maken.

For help, he relies on his childhood friend Haruko Amaya (voiced by Noriko Shitaya). The two have been close for years and Haruko is always worrying about Takeru’s safety. Or his perverse habits. Often both.

If things weren’t already difficult, Takeru gets another surprise. On his first day, he meets Inaho Kushiya (voiced by Iori Nomizu). To everyone’s shock, she proclaims herself to be Takeru’s fiancée. A claim Takeru has no knowledge on why.

Adding to this, Takeru runs into Kodama Himegami (voiced by Sayuri Yahagi). Their meeting isn’t the smoothest. But to make matters worse, Kodama believes Takeru to be her long-awaited enemy.
